Final Blog Post
I chose my topic because I have family that work in the hospital and after talking about wealth disparities in class it made me realize that one medical incident could easily drive an impoverished family into ruin. After looking at a few articles it became obvious that many people of color experienced the problem of lacking healthcare than white people. I decided that to reach my target audience I would inform them of the growing expansion of ACA medicaid available for those who do not have health insurance. Although I sent both authors of the article my factsheet I did not get a response from either of them. Therefore I got no feedback when it came to interpretting and using their article in my project. I only shared my materials on my blog for a handful of reasons. The main reason being that since I didn't get any input from the authors about the article of theirs I am unsure whether the information I used was properly applied. Also, I found it difficult to format my post in a way that made the content digestable and easy to understand. The hardest part about summarizing the research article was understanding the graphs that summarized the information and some of the complications that came with different types of insurance. When it came to translating the fact sheet for social media the ahrdest part was shaping it in a way that didn't bore the reader but not so simple that it skimmed over important details that provided sustanance to the article's claim. What I learned from this project is that it takes a bit of work to interpret an article and even then there is still the posibility that maybe you simplified important aspects of the article to make it make sense in your own head. Also, it is quite difficult to manipulate the information into an argument while making sure that it maintains its original meaning and not chaning the context tied to said information. I hope others will take away that studies are very important, but that it takes some time to truly dig and find what the article is saying and to correctly interpret the information as written.
